Josie the Wedding Officiant

It kind of started as a joke.

My sister was planning her wedding, and was looking for someone to perform the ceremony. I joked that, as a notary public, I could do it. She totally took me up on it, and I ended up performing the ceremony. It was one of the best times I ever had, getting to do something so special for my sister.

When Trey called, telling us that one of his coaches was getting married in Pawleys Island and needed an officiant, I said "why not"?

I had been in contact for about a month with the bride, and we had the best time putting the ceremony together. She had done lots of research on beach weddings, so it was really easy for me to just put it all in order for the ceremony. The ceremony was yesterday, and it was so sweet and simple. They held it at the south end of Pawleys Island, right on the beach. The aisle was formed on one side by the groom's family and friends, and the other side by the bride's. The creek was at their back, and the ocean was in front of them. The bride wore a simple white dress, and the groom wore an ocean-blue shirt and khaki shorts. We smiled and laughed through the whole ceremony, and there was lots of cheering and clapping at the end.

The reception was equally nice, and the families were so warm and welcoming to Richie and myself. They held it at Carefree Catering in Pawleys Island, and the food made me flip. Pulled pork, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans and fruit. Sweet tea and red velvet wedding cake. Truly, a southern food dream.

The best part, though, was being a part of the couple's special day. Watching a wedding, you can't help but think of your own. But that's for another blog post.

Toodles!

When I saw your status on Facebook last week about officiating a wedding, I thought you were totally kidding. Wow. So you married Tracy???? Well, you officiated her wedding, I mean. Wow. That sure beats the matron of honor gig.

That's pretty cool, Josie. Pretty cool. I almost felt like I was at the beach wedding the way you described it. :)
